Data Breach Fallout

The CEO of Target has stepped down in the aftermath of the huge data breach that hit the retailer last year.  Although not a huge surprise considering how big the breach was, to see such a high profile resignation is a reminder that these incidents have significant business consequences

“Target on Monday announced that Steinhafel, who spent 35 years with the company, has resigned effective immediately. John Mulligan, the retail chain’s chief financial officer, will serve as interim president and CEO until a permanent replacement is chosen.”

Wyndham Worldwide Corp. is experiencing a data breach fallout of their own.  On the heels of a FTC lawsuit, investors have filed suit…

“…accusing the hotel chain’s top brass of causing financial harm by instituting lax data security controls that led to three breaches in less than two years, according to a redacted complaint made public on Friday. “
