University of Connecticut notifies patients of data breach

Another day, Another healthcare data breach.

“The University of Connecticut Health Center alerted patients on Friday that a former employee had breached 1,400 patient records. The Health Center learned that the employee inappropriately accessed names, addresses, dates of birth, some Social Security numbers and other health data on Jan. 7.

As a result of the health data breach, the university is providing two years of year free credit monitoring and identity theft insurance to patients involved with the breach.

The University of Connecticut Health Center released a statement saying that no patient data has been misused yet and that the former employee shouldn’t have had access to the data. The Health Center apologized for the incident and promised that this was a rogue event.”
